When I was a child, I used to watch cartoons (like digimon) and my parents bougth me comics with many pictures of dinosaurs. This turned on my curiosity about those immense and strange creatures which I found amazing. So basically I wanted to be a paleontologist and find huge bones in the Atacama desert to put it on my desk like trophies :D.
A few years ago I discovered other areas and disciplines that I like such as maths or environmental sciences. I think that is because of my interest to investigate about dinosaurs, extinctions and climate change.
Before I discovered the Renewable Natural Resources program, I had options such as electrical or biotechnology engineering. I feel a little shamed to say this, but I also thought about commercial engineering just for the money ;-;. Anyway, in 2018 I had the opportunity to travel to Brazil with my family, where I appreciated the richness of some landscapes and forests (I fell in love with it, btw). This made me to become interested in careers related to the environment and socio-environmental problems, but also including the maths, physics and programming areas.
The academic program for natural resources may be interesting and integrating, but there are many challenges to solve. There are many tasks and assignments, because the subjects are not coordinated due to the recently changes in the academic program. Additionally, this is the first year of the new subjects, so I sometimes feel like I am not learning things. However, I have discovered many interesting topics like soil sciences and remote sensing (unpopular opinion lol).
If you actually are in any program and you are interested in one of the areas of Natural Resources, I recommend staying in your program because you don't get much sleep in this, sorry guys. :) But probably you'll make very good friends just like me.
